The heart behind my Workshops is a hope to bring people together and foster a sense of community in a very delicious way! With specially-curated dessert-themed projects, you can expect to walk away with valuable instructions, tips, tricks, signature Sweet Melissa recipes, and, of course, decadent desserts to share at home with family and friends.
In each Workshop, my focus is to create a beautifully-styled, Instagram-worthy experience. Every participant will be set up at individual stations with all of their materials ready to go, receive a swag bag, enjoy light bites, sweets, and refreshments.
Private Workshops are available for bridal showers, bachelorette parties, girls' nights, birthdays, or just because! Host in your home or on location—I bring everything to you for a fun hands-on get-together!
Beer and a bundt cake? Why not?! I'm partnering with Dig the Dunes and Zorn Brew Works to create the perfect brew/dessert combo. Everyone will get 5 beer samples and 5 dessert tastings. Learn about the flavors of both the desserts and brews and why they match up so perfectly. Leave with a bounty of knowledge and a full belly. Head to Zorn early and have some lunch!
Invite me into your kitchen to get hands-on with pastry in my pie crust 101! Learn everything you need to know to create flaky, no-fail pie crust. I'll share my tips and tricks along with the entire step-by-step process. We'll create a double-crust pie of your choice (apple, blueberry, or cherry) and finish off with a beautiful lattice top.
Amaze yourself and your friends with gorgeous buttercream piped flowers! I'll go through the basics of using a piping bag with custom Russian piping tips.—also showing you how to use multiple colors in one bag to create even more dimension. Incredibly easy with show-stopping results! Each participant will get a half dozen cupcakes and box to take your beautiful creations home.
Cake and fresh florals go hand in hand! I’ll walk you through the basics of leveling and assembling a 6-inch layer cake in the ever-popular “naked” style with smooth buttercream frosting. We’ll then prep gorgeous flowers to adorn the top of your cake using floral tape and wires. Simple, natural, and sweet! A cake box will be provided to house your creation to take with you.
What can be better than a bouquet of flowers? An edible rose cupcake bouquet of course! After assembling the cupcake bouquet with a flower pot and styrofoam base, I’ll go through the basics of using a piping bag and teach you how to create a beautiful rose with a 1M icing tip. We’ll use this technique to decorate mini cupcakes with smooth vanilla buttercream frosting. Each participant will take home their finished flower pot bouquet to share with family and friends or give away as a gift.
If you think scones are too complicated to make at home, let me show you how easy and delicious they can be! In this hands-on workshop, invite me into your kitchen to share my tips and tricks for creating the most flaky scones. We'll go through the process from start to finish and bake your choice of scones (cherry-almond, cranberry-orange, or blueberry-lemon). This is a perfect activity for a brunch get-together or afternoon tea!
"An afternoon full of learning, laughs, and cake layers! Melissa did an amazing job taking us step by step in building our layered naked cakes. She made it approachable and first time user friendly. I can take what I learned home with me and apply it to some future cake decorating escapades! Also we got to eat while we worked! (definitely one of my favorite parts) I would recommend for anyone looking to have a fun get together with friends or looking to learn some new baking skills."
"This workshop was very fun and tasty! Had a great time learning how to decorate a cake and use some fancy baking tools. Highly recommend for a girls afternoon or night out. Best part: all the desserts are super yummy and you get to take some goodies home!"
